JAIPUR: A bunch of 15 players, which includes three from Rajasthan, will travel to the UAE as net bowlers with the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. While right-arm pacer Arafat Khan, left-arm spinner Chandrapal Singh have the experience of representing the state, leg-spinner Ankit Soni has the IPL experience of seven matches when he played for Gujarat Lions in 2017.Arafat, who is currently in Mumbai with other players, is not unknown to the Royals set-up. "I was their net bowler even last year. It is a completely different experience for it gives an opportunity to bowl to giants like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler and they even give you the feedback. It matters a lot for any budding cricketer," said the 23-year-old fast bowler."Bowling outswingers is my strength, but last time I bowled a lot many yorkers during the nets and that earned me praise from Smith. He told me 'you bowled well'," Arafat added. After having impressed one and all at the Under-23 level, the right-arm bowler made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the last domestic season against Bengal where he not only took three wickets, but also bowled parsimoniously. "Even in the nets, my focus is on controlling the flow of runs. I am not going to allow Royals batsmen hit me for sixes," laughed Arafat.Chandrapal too has prior experience with the Jaipur-based franchise. "In 2013 I did net bowling for RR and in 2019 I had even appeared for trials for them and Delhi Capitals," the left-arm spinner said. Since his T20 debut for Rajasthan in 2015, he has regularly featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is a vital cog in the state team. "Such exposure is always valuable and you never know what opportunities it can open for you in the future. I still remember, Zubin sir (RR's director of cricket) telling me to bowl away from the left-hand batsmen as it could help in being more effective. These are the feedbacks which in the end help you in improving your technique," added the 25-year-old spinner.Royals will leave for the UAE to play the 13th edition of the IPL on August 20.
